Ellen V.

About

Ellen assists lawyers and law firms with:

  • Legal strategy
  • Writing and research, particularly on appeals.

Experience:

Ellen has over 25 years of experience as a lawyer in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.  She started her career at what is now Denton’s and has extensive experience providing litigation assistance to boutique litigation firms, small firms, and sole practitioners.

She provides insight into how judges make decisions, gained while articling with the Alberta Court of Appeal and Queen’s Bench, and acting as Legal Counsel to the Queen’s Bench.

Ellen has a strong academic background, graduating fourth in her class from UBC Law and earning several academic scholarships throughout her years of law school.

She brings to each file a quick understanding and willingness to push back, earning her the moniker “the throbbing brain” from a client specializing in commercial litigation.  She is at her best when she is asked to jump in and strategize alongside another lawyer, bringing a fresh perspective to the file.

She has written the winning factum for one SCC appeal, and numerous appeals in the ABCA, BCCA, and ONCA.
