Experience:

During his over 22 years of practice, Chris Caston has participated in hundreds of mediations and settlement conferences as counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants.  As a mediator, he strives to provide a tailored, customized approach to each mediation, offering a comfortable forum where all parties feel engaged and confident to make important decisions about their cases.

Chris was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001. He holds a B.A. (Hons, Summa Cum Laude) from Brock University (1995), and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School (1999). Through Osgoode he completed the advanced Lawyer as Negotiator course in negotiation and mediation, which included a practical component mediating disputes at Toronto Small Claims Court. He has also completed Osgoode’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop.

Since his call to the bar, Chris has acted as senior counsel for insurance companies, both in-house and outside, and also spent over two years working exclusively on behalf of injured plaintiffs. Chris was once even a plaintiff in a personal injury matter himself.  He is a senior lawyer with expertise in motor vehicle liability, accident benefits, contracts, municipal liability, LTD, occupiers’ liability, property / subrogation, products liability, professional negligence, medical malpractice, employment and insurance disputes.  In the early 2000’s he was co-counsel for the Municipality of Brockton, one of the main defendants in the Walkerton class action case. Chris has extensive trial and appellate experience on both sides of the courtroom.  

Chris is married with two active young boys.  He is a vegetarian who loves to run, cycle, and stay active.
